How to set up guest WiFi

The article explains creating guest Wi-Fi access on your SmartRG gateway device.

Guest Wi-Fi is useful when it is preferred that specific LAN devices only have internet connectivity but not have access to other LAN devices (e.g. network hard drives, printers, security systems, etc.).

Preparation

The following are required:

  • Make sure the appropriate WAN service is built and that Internet access is up.
  • Wireless is enabled.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Point your browser to 192.168.1.1/admin.
  2. In the left navigation menu, click Wireless.

  3. Click the Enabled check box next to the first Guest SSID (at the bottom of the page).
  4. (Optional) Customize the SSID from “Guest” to another desired network name.
  5. Click Apply/Save.

    Next, configure the security options for the Guest SSID that was just enabled.

  6. In the left menu, click Security.

  7. In the Select SSID field, select the guest SSID.
  8. Change the Network Authentication from Open to the desired security strength.
  9. Enter the desired passphrase and click Apply/Save.

The available network list should look like the following scanning for available WiFi access points.
