Purpose & Scope
This article is intended to provide “How To” instructions for setting up your SmartRG broadband modem Port Forwards via the Web UI. With UPnP enabled, Port Forwards will automatically populate. This article discusses the method for manual entry.
Log in to Your SmartRG Gateway
1. Connect your PC to your CPE using an Ethernet cable.
2. Enter the IP address of the CPE device (WAN or LAN) in your browser URL dialog box. The default LAN IP is shown below.
3. You will be prompted to log in to your gateway with a username and password. The default User Name is admin and Password is admin. If your modem has different login credentials, contact your ISP to obtain them. Once you have logged in, the main landing page of the gateway appears.
4. On the main landing page, click Manage Gateway (Advanced).
5. In the left navigation menu, select Advanced Setup > NAT > Virtual Severs. The NAT > Virtual Servers page appears.
6. Click the Add Button. The following screen appears:
7. Select the interface ports on which this service will be active. Then select a pre-existing service from the drop down or create a Custom Service. When you create a custom service, the Name, External Port Start, External Port End, and Protocol fields are revealed and must be populated with appropriate values.

UPnP – Universal Plug and Play
UPnP is a set of networking protocols that permits networked devices, such as personal computers, printers, internet gateways, Wi-Fi access points and mobile devices to seamlessly "discover" each one another on the network and establish functional network services for data sharing, communications, and entertainment.
UPnP is typically enabled by default, but may be edited under the Advanced Setup section of your gateway. This feature is recommended in most cases as it allows applications to automatically populate Port Forwards as needed.
IP Cameras
Note: Most IP camera systems require a specific Port Forward which should be supplied by the camera’s manufacturer. These systems may also require the use of Internet Explorer exclusively, add blocking removed and a specific jar file/app downloaded.
Game Systems
With UPnP enabled, your game system will automatically populate its required Port Forwards. You can verify this by navigating to the Virtual Servers page: Advanced Setup > NAT > Virtual Servers. All currently configured Port Forwards will be displayed as shown in the Completed Example above.
If an additional Port Forward is required, repeat the steps shown above.
Note: Some gaming and camera systems do not work reliably with UPnP. Follow the instructions provided by the client device manufacturer for adding static entries.
