disabling default mail client check?

Jump to solution

I am running NetVanta UC client ver 5.3.0.8128. Our community uses FirstClass as an email client. This email client is not supported by the UC client.

When the UC client is launched, we receive the dialog box:

"Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the message request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client."

Is there a way to disable this default email check when I launch the UC client? Any registry workarounds perhaps?

Thank you all.

After talking with Engineering, then mentioned this is a microsoft error message, not UC Client.

During the actual UC Client install on the end user PC, you can disable the Outlook integration. on the Custom Setup Screen just click on "Outlook Integration" and choose "Entire Feature will be unavailable."

If already installed, go to add/remove programs and then select "ADTRAN NetVanta Unified Communications Client" and then click the Change button then Next, then the Change button again. From there you can do the steps above to remote the Outlook Integration."

Hope that helps.

Mark,

Thanks for the reply. Strange thing is, this option is not showing within our latest install package. We get our install package straight from our ECS server. adtran.JPG

My next step included uninstalling Outlook and the UC Client, then re-installing the UC client. Outlook or office must leave some residue, as the UC Client installed complained about the 64-bit version of Outlook being found.

Couple questions, what Version OS are you running and what version Outlook are you running?

I'm running Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit. We do not use Outlook, but it was installed along side of our MS office applications. We use FirstClass developed by OpenText, which is not currently supported by the UC client.

What version of Outlook was installed? 2013? 32 or 64 bit?

I believe that is where the problem lies, with 5.3 we only support Outlook 2010 32 bit. We added 64 bit support in 5.4.

That is why the option is not available I believe because it is not supported. Still not sure why you are getting that message though!

If you go into the UC Client app on the server and click on that user, what does it say on the Messaging tab? What is the email storage?

I will check with some other people to see what they think.

Could you test on that one computer and uninstall Outlook and see if the message goes away?
