I'm pulling my hair out trying to troubleshoot two phones are not booting up. Actually I can't get any phone to boot up.
I have a few vlan on my network.
Vlan 1 - 192.168.150.254 (default)
Vlan 2 - 192.168.1.1 (testing)
Vlan 3 - 192.168.151.254 (guest)
Vlan 4 - 192.168.152.254 (VOIP).
When the phone boot up, I can see it attempts to go to VLANID = 4. It stays there forever.
I have both vlan 1 and vlan 4 with option 157 that points to the 192.168.150.254 with the ftp user name and password. I'm pretty sure this part is working as the phones does attempts VLAN 4.
I have dhcp set for vlan 4.
When I run show ip dhcp binding - I do not see any vlan 4 ip address though.
Any help is appreciate.
Hi Matt,
I've found the problem. On option 157.
I had FtpServer=192.168.152.254
It needed to be FtpServers=192.168.152.254
That's right, the plural make the difference...
I think it's a dhcp server problem or an ftp server problem, but I'm not sure. Does anyone knows what this message means? I ran the command
DEBUG ip dhcp server

Command
Debug ip ftp-server
Nothing here.......
O.K. the problem here was that I have a second network switch which I stacked together and added vlan 4. I can get an ip address from VLAN 4 now.
However, the phone still does not boot.
On the phone itself, under status, I have this. DHCP enabled.
Ip address 192.168.152.55 (vlan 4 which is correct)
subnet 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.152.254
dns 209.18.47.61
dns 209.18.47.62
ftp: NOT SET -------
tftp: 0.0.0.0
L2 Tagging: On
VLAN ID: 4
Here is the error I'm getting now when running debug ip dhcp server. Any help is highly appreciated.

touristsis,
A problem we see fairly often is other DHCP servers being on the same VLAN as the phone. Other network switches, firewalls, wireless routers, servers, etc can all potentially act as a DHCP server. If the phone sees a response from more than one server it will typically prevent a phone from booting all the way, but could still work randomly when it is rebooted. I know you mentioned in your earlier post that you had another stacked switch in the mix and resolved that. I would suggest that you check these things next:
I hope some of this helps. Feel free to reply with any further information or questions and I would be happy to help.
Thanks,
Matt
