Outgoing caller ID for one user using main number instead of Alias

Just had my 7100 replaced for the second time under our manufacturer warranty and all settings were transferred with the exception of the dial plan (which I already fixed) and now a new problem.  I set up a new user, set her name and her alias number just like I had always done for all my users.  When I call out from her phone (Adtran 712) it shows our main exernal number as her caller ID phone number rather than her Alias.

The alias number does work, I can call in to that number and her extension rings.  I just can't figure out why her ougoing isn't showing her Alias for the caller ID.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.  Matt pointed me in the right direction and I found the solution to my issue.  I guess they set it up to use ANI substitution on the outgoing caller ID numbers but since this was a previously unused number, there was no ANI set.  Once I set that up in the trunk settings, all is good.  Thanks everyone for the help.

Hello dlevasseur,

Select the User Config settings tab from the User Accounts menu.

This will have the settings for External Caller ID Number.

I forgot to ask if you are using a SIP trunk for connection to the PSTN.

If you are then you should use SIP identities to set the external caller id info.

This can be found under the VoIP tab in the User Accounts menu.

The PRI trunk is set to ISDN.  I just checked and none of my users have a SIP identity set and their caller ID information does show as their Alias phone numbers.  Making changes to the User Config "External Caller ID" has never changed anything for us.

When you say "SIP trunk PRI connection" I assume this means that you are connecting to the provider through the WAN port over VoIP and not a physical PRI.

Can you post the output of "debug sip stack messages"?

Run this while you place a call from the extension.

Sorry I edited my post but didn't send out the updates. It is a physical PRI port and the trunk is labeled as ISDN not SIP.

Where do I run that command?

I'll be the first to admit that I don't know much about our system. I just wanted to try to help myself before calling ACES.

If it's a PRI then the command will be "debug isdn l2-formatted".

This needs to be run from the command line.

Check with your provider that they are not blocking that specific caller id.

I know many providers that have a white list for caller id.

They usually add them as they hand out the DIDs but at times they forget.

From the debug that you supplied it appears the External Caller ID Number is not set for this user and it is likely using a global ANI substitution for the main number. Can you check the settings in the web interface for this user:

1 – Voice > User Accounts > select user and click Edit

2 – Click the User Config tab

3 – Set the External Caller ID Number to Custom Entry and enter the 10 digit number you want to use

4 – Click the Apply button at the bottom of the screen (don’t forget to also save the configuration)

If it appears correct there please respond with the output from a show run voice user xxxx where xxxx = the user's extension.  Please remove any senstivie information such as public phone numbers from the output.

As previously discussed, our caller ID information is not set on that screen.  Making changes to the External Caller ID Number makes no difference on any of my users.

Setting the alias does not set outbound caller-id.  It is only used as a way to match inbound calls to users in the switchboard of the unit.  Please try setting the External Caller ID Number outlined above and then make a test call from that user's phone.  Post the output from another debug isdn l2-formatted in a reply.

I'll try it again here in a bit, though I will say I have already tried it once and also NONE of my users have that field set at all and their caller ID information is correct.
