Need some phone help

Jump to solution

Hello all!

I've got an issue and can't seem to get Adtran to help out.  I have a new client who has a netvanta installed in their central office.  The netvanta is being used as a phone system and termination point for 5 remote sites.  Each remote site uses an ASA 5505 to complete the remote end of the tunnel.  Everything is working great except for one site.  The only variable at this site is that it is using dsl /PPPoE.  I cannot get the 1 phone at the remote site to work.  I can ping across the vpn, access network drives, etc.  One thing that is odd is I do not see any SIP traffic even trying to go outbound.  I'm pretty new to Adtran, does anybody have any words of wisdom?

I would check/or add 157 in DHCP(for the remote location) and make sure it is configured for the type of phone that you are using. You need to put in the path for the adtran/polycom phone with username, pw and vlan.

Option 157 Example:

ASCII TftpServers=0.0.0.0,FtpServers=192.168.2.1:/ADTRAN,FtpLogin=polycomftp,FtpPassword=password,Layer2Tagging=True,VlanID=2

Run “debug sip stack messages” on the Adtran and see if the phone is attempting to register.

If you do not see any SIP traffic from the remote phone on the Adtran you will need to get a packet capture (Wireshark) on both sides of the tunnel to see were the SIP traffic is being blocked.

It’s also possible that the phone is misconfigured, this will also show up in the one of the packet captures.

Please respond back with any questions.

Check your VLANs. You may have to add the new voice VLAN at that site. You may want to try manually configuring the phone if the VLAN is correct.

I've tried to swap out the phone, check the traffic logs, no problems.  I can ping from Phone to Netvanta and from Netvanta to Phone as long as i use their respective LAN IP addresses.  I cannot access the netvanta using its public address which i can at the other sites.  My Network drive stays connection and all lan to lan traffic works fine as well.  Can someone refresh me on the necessary settings on the Phone itself?

If no SIP messages are making it to the 7100, I would recommend attempting to take a packet capture from directly in front of the phone. That way you can see the REGISTER messages sent by the phone. With that information, you should be able to adjust the phone settings.

Are you manually configuring the phone, or are you attempting to have it download its configuration from the 7100?

Great! As soon as I'm on my computer I will do that. The fix was the FTP server entry on the Cisco firewall. Option 157.

Phone downloaded and registered but no audio after 5 seconds.
