Netvanta 4305 first gen having issues with multiple IP addresses that use the same MAC

Jump to solution

Hello All,

I have a Netvanta 4305 first generation router (1200950L1) that seems to be having issues with multiple IP addresses that share the same MAC address as far as routing packets to them, specifically SIP option pings. The end device(PBX A) in question uses a virtual IP address but two different physical links to communicate to the Netvanta gateway for redundancy via Netvanta 1224 and 1524 switches. The option ping from PBX A will show on the wireshark trace as leaving IP address 192.168.10.2 (virtual IP) with MAC ending in AE:23 but when the return reply from PBX B (off network over public web) comes back it will be routed to 192.168.10.2 but with a MAC ending in AE:24 (alternate link to PBX A that is not using the 192.168.10.2 address at this time). The ARP table shows 192.168.10.2 as belonging to AE:23. 4305 is running AOS 13.04.01.E.

I noticed that the release notes for AOS 17.09.01.00 show as fixing a similar issue for 1544's but the latest I can upgrade to for the 4305 is 17.01.05.00. Any ideas or suggestions? Could this be the same issue and if so, any idea if 17.01 would fix it for the 4305? TIA!

Matthew,

I would definitely recommend upgrading to the latest firmware that the 1st Gen 4305 will support which is 17.01.05. Once you have upgraded, and if the issue continues, could you also post the output to "show arp"? Also, do you have any details on how the redundancy works? Is this for load balancing purposes or for failover purposes?

Please do not hesitate to let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Noor
