QOS/Interface setup for differing network bandwidth between sites

I've got ethernet port with 3 meg bandwidth feeding to 2 remote sites with ethernet ports of 2 meg bandwidth each.  What is the best way to set this up?  Each remote site is a separate subnet.

Greg - Thanks for providing that information. Based on your description, I do not see a need to "cap" outbound traffic at any of the sites as the provider will usually take care of that within their network. However, since you are wanting to prioritize traffic, you will need to traffic-shape the WAN (outgoing) interface so that QoS assumes the correct available bandwidth when calculating QoS priorities. This traffic-shape rate should be set to the upload throughput you are guaranteed by your provider for that site. Without having traffic-shaping enabled, the router will assume that the available bandwidth is whatever speed the ethernet port is negotiating or set to. On the NetVanta 3430, this would be either 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps. In your case, you will want to set up traffic-shaping such that corporate's 3430 will have a traffic-shape rate set to 3 Mbps and the remote 3430s will have a traffic-shape rate set to 2 Mbps.

As far as the QoS map goes, you will simply need to create a QoS map that will be assigned to the WAN interface. It sounds like you know which traffic you want to prioritize. Example #2 on page 42 of the guide below provides the closest example of what you are setting up:

The example referenced above uses the 'bandwidth' command, however, for 'real-time' traffic, such as VoIP and video, it is recommend that you use the 'priority' command. This command allows for a better handling of traffic that is sensitive to delay and jitter.

- Thanks for posting your question on the forum! I'll need some more details about what you are wanting to do before I can give you any suggestions on how to set up any QoS.

1. How are these 3 sites connected? (i.e. Are they connected via VPN, point-to-point Ethernet links, MPLS, etc.,)

2. Are the bandwidths you mentioned for each site referring to the upload and download throughput?

3. Are you wanting to prioritize traffic over any of the links? If so, which traffic?

4. What are you wanting QoS to accomplish in your network?

All sites are provided an ethernet connection from provider.

Corporate side has 3 meg bidirectional.  2 remote sites are 2meg bidirectional.

All locations have NV3430's.

I do have voip tagged with DSCP ef that need priority and other specific traffic that can be identfied by a ACL that needs higher priority everything else would be best effort.

I thinking corporate overall outgoing capped at 3. with traffic destined toward each of the remote sites needs to be capped at 2 meg outgoing from corporate.

Voip priority limited to 256 to each remote site.

Coming back, voip priority 256 limit and 2 meg limit.
