we want to create a new network (network B)172.16.10.1 and put all of our printers there and connected to our actual network 192.168.1.1 (network A) and been able to print.
can we accomplish this task with a single router
You should be able to do so. That's the purpose of routers. More specifics would help such as what else is on the network, how many physical interfaces on the router, do you have separate cabling and switch for the printer network or will you VLAN an existing switch, etc.
Thank you Jayh, Our network A (192.168.10.1) its already working just fine for us, we are running out of IP's, we want to create a different network using a new router Adtran Netvanta 3448 this network will be specific for printers only we will call it Network B (172.16.10..1).
the clients are connected to the network A but their printers installed on the same client computer we want then to go to network B,(there will be a switch (S) to accommodate more than 125 printers) we have the cabling and there jacks already on all offices for the printers.
and 2 new Netvanta 3448.
You don't mention where the Internet is connected in this equation, but this should work. Configure a second subnet of 172.16.0.1 for the printers. The printers should use this address as their gateway. Leave the 192.168.10.1 network for the computers and ensure that they use the address of the Netvanta (192.168.10.1) as their gateway. If the Netvanta presently NATs out to the Internet for the computers you're done. If there's another Internet router on the 192.168.10.x network, configure a default route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 on the Netvanta pointed to the Internet router.
The key is that the Netvanta be the default gateway for both the computer and printer subnets so that it can properly route the traffic, with a default route on the Netvanta going out to the Internet. You will need additional steps if you want the printers to access the Internet depending on your setup. Unless there is a need, I'd not configure the printers to reach the Internet.
Hello,
Thank you for your help on this project, again currently we have Adtran Netvanta Series, NV3448 with 2 WAN and 8 LAN Ethernet ports, this is connected to the internet All devices are in a class "A" network, no DHCP service, and OpenDNS DNS servers,
what we want to do is create another network using another Adtran Netvanta Series, NV3448 new that we have. this new network (172.16.0.1)will be only for printers,
the object here is that the user computer will be connected to our current network, their printers will be connected to the 172.16.0.1 network, we have never done this, we know now that it is possible, little help on the configuration will be appreciated.
Thanks to all
