Question on Adtran 3120 installs on Eth/01 interface address

We have installed several 3120’s with our bonded DSL customers, where we bridge our Telco modem into the 3120. We have set up IP ffe on each install with no problem. IP ffe is added to int PPP1 and VLAN 1. My question is about the eth/01 interface that has no IP address. The gateway address is on the VLAN 1, not the eth/01. So we can’t of course add ffe to that interface with no ip address.  Is this OK? Or would it be better to change the 192.168.1.1 gateway address to the eth 0/1? Then would we make the Vlan 1 address 192.168.1.2?

We just want to make sure going forward with new installs that we don’t develop any bad habits! THANKS!!

Thank you for asking this question in the support community.  The example configuration you sent didn't have the ip ffe commands, but where you have described them above is correct.  In this PPPoE setup, typically, you will have ip ffe on the PPP and VLAN interface.

Thanks for the reply Levi. On the ''show run'' file I attached, at the end I ran a ''show ip ffe'' and it looks like it is there. Am I missing something?

Also I had a question on the eth 0/1 interface NOT having an IP address, and wondering if that was normal. Wanted to make sure we are configuring them the proper way for all our installs.

I apologize, you are exactly correct.  The ip ffe didn't show up in the running-configuration, because that command was recently changed to be a default command.  The correct information was in the show commands you provided.  Since the unit is configured for PPPoE, the PPP interface will have the IP address, and not the Ethernet interface.  So, that is completely normal.  The Configuring PPP in AOS Quick Start Guide has a brief example of this design, where it shows no IP address on the Ethernet interface.
