We have four 1638P switches. Two of the four are currently running VRRP. We have a default route from these 1638s to our firewall which routes out to our primary internet connection. However, we would like to direct any internet traffic from our guest wired and wireless (BlueSocket) vlans through a DSL connection which is connected to a 1335 a couple switch "hops" away from the stack of 1638s. My research led me to policy based routing using route-maps to send guest vlan internet bound traffic to the DSL. However, I found the 1638s do not support policy based routing. Is this true and how do you suggest we do this?
Eventually we will need to setup network monitoring to use the DSL as a backup internet access for all users as well. Any issues with this?
Thank you,
Dan
Thank you for asking this question in the support community. You are exactly right, the application you described is perfectly suited for policy based routing (PBR) (Configuring Policy Based Routing in AOS); however, unfortunately, the NetVanta 1638 units do not support PBR. Therefore, this would have to be done on a routing device (the NetVanta 1335 does support PBR).
Network Monitoring (Configuring Network Monitoring in AOS) is supported on the NetVanta 1638 units, and they could be used to monitor a connection and change the default route due to a failure. Please, let me know what additional information or questions you have on this application.
All of the information about what product lines support which features can be found in the AOS feature matrix. For assistance with selection of products for your network design and applications, please contact our applications engineers.
