I have a server connect to 1335 that will not let go of the device. I have powered off server, I have disabled interface, I have clear ip cache counters cleared MAC address-table and arp table, but for some reason this particular ip address will not resolve the MAC address.
Noor, please remove discussion, server was broke!
@cburgamy - There could be several reasons as to why you are unable to resolve this IP address to your server's MAC. To help lead us in the right direction, could you provide the following information?:
- Is the server connected directly to the 1335? If not, please describe the topology.
- The IP address and MAC address of the server.
- Configuration of the 1335. Please be sure to remove any sensitive information from the configuration file.
- The output to "show mac address-table".
- The output to "show arp".
Please let us know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Noor
Noor, please remove discussion, server was broke!
@cburgamy - I think it may be helpful to other users to leave the discussion in the forum. Other users could take the steps you did to troubleshoot this issue in case they run into a similar issue. It would be great if you could provide details of what the issue ended up being and how you went about finding out what the issue was. I'm sure other users will benefit from it.
If you want me to go ahead and remove the discussion, I can do so.
Thanks,
Noor
Unable to ping server, ran a sho arp and the server address was still in the table, along with a show mac address-table, but with this command I noticed the MAC address was not resolved. Bounced the interface, powered server down, discharged server, and power server backup. The server booted back up with window errors and failed to load the OS. Since I was unable to provide remote assistance to resolve issue, we set out new box. After the server was powered down and disconnected from 1335, I cleared the arp cache and the server's ip address and unresolved MAC entry were gone.
I went ahead and flagged the "Correct Answer" on this post to make it more visible and help other members of the community find solutions more easily. If you don't feel like the answer I marked was correct, feel free to come back to this post and unmark it and select another in its place with the applicable buttons. If you still need assistance, we would be more than happy to continue working with you on this - just let us know in a reply.
Thanks,
