We were experiencing problem with a vanta switch freezing up almost once a week even if I oculd find anything wring form the SHOW EVENT-LOG. I wanted to reset the configuration and plugged the switch on a serial port. Il could then see hundreds un errors loke those :
eth0/1: initialising
switch: Error at offset 301989888: Write = 0x001ABB9C Read = 0x001ABABC
switch: Error at offset 301989889: Write = 0x001ABB9C Read = 0x001ABABC
[...]
switch: Error at offset 302972959: Write = 0x001ABB9C Read = 0x001ABABC
switch: Error, aiasing did not occur, 16MB not detected
The switch is not covered bt any warranty anymore and I was wondering if there could be a neat trick to bring the device back to life.
Thank you for asking this question in the support community. It appears the flash memory may be corrupt. I would recommend erasing it and starting over. However, keep in mind, if there is a major problem with the flash, you also have a possibility of erasing the file-system, and the unit may not recover. So, I would suggest doing this as a last resort, or having a backup unit as a precaution. To do this, follow the instructions in the Clearing FLASH and Upgrading in AOS Bootstrap document.
The general steps described in the document are:
I hope that makes sense, but please do not hesitate to reply if you have any questions or additional information. I will be happy to help in any way I can.
