Polycom IP335 Ringtones

tone_

Has anyone configured different internal and external caller ringtones on the Polycom IP 335?  I have these installed on a 7100 with the BCS attached.

First I would like to clarify two things:

1 – In my previous post I implied you can append the global directory with custom entries via the Other Directory Entries tab, but that is not the case.  Whenever this is populated it will load it to the phone instead of the global directory.  The entries on the Other Directory Entries tab corresponds to the <mac-address>-directory.xml file in the Polycom directory on cflash.

2 – The global directory is loaded to the 000000000000-directory.xml file in the Polycom directory on cflash. This file is downloaded to the phone upon boot up and is used for the contact directory unless the <mac-address>-directory.xml file explained above is also downloaded and contains entries.

Things you can check to see why the global directory is not loading on a Polycom are:

  • Voice > IP Phone Globals – is the “Include System Phone Directory” checked?

  • Is the 000000000000-directory.xml file in the Polycom directory on cflash present?

  • If the 000000000000-directory.xml file is there, is the phone downloading it?  You can confirm this with a debug ip ftp-server:

FTP: BINARY data connection for 000000000000-directory.xml.

FTP: RETR command - BINARY transfer complete.

2012.08.20 14:29:23 IP.FTP SERVER (RETR) Transfer of file '/Polycom/000000000000-directory.xml' complete for remote host '10.10.20.19'

Thanks,
Matt

This is something that is dependent on entries in the contact directory loaded on the phone.  Page 39 of this guide on Polycom's site explains how to do it on an IP 33x.  Here is a link to a guide for setting it on ADTRAN IP 700 phones:

Is the "Contact Directory" on the 335  the same System Directory on the 7100? If it isnt is there a way to import the same "Contact Directory" to all phones?

Yes, the contact directory is based on the system directory.  If a user wanted to add additional custom entries they could do this from Voice > IP Phone Configs > select extension and click Edit > Other Directory Entries tab > New > enter information and click Add and then Apply.

If the IP 335 is not getting the System Directory, what do I need to check?  Is there a debug or some other item I need to look for on the System Directory settings?

I think I found a way to get the Contact Directory on to the phones.  I had to delete the phone and re-add it to the system.  Is there an easier way to do this?
