Any tricks to connecting to the 908e 3rd gen Craft Interface?

I followed the quick start guide with no luck. Oh by the way ethernet 0/1 & 0/2 are disable factory default so the only port to access the GUI is the GigE port.

When in the GUI and looking at the Physical Interfaces it doesn't have the Craft Interface listed which causes me to wonder if the Craft Interface is a working option any more.

I've tried both Hyperterm and Putty with no luck. By the Quick start guide the setting should be 8 none and 1. if it different please let me know.

All you need is a serial straight through DB9 male to female cable. If you are using a USB to Serial adapter then you have to make sure you are using the correct COM port. If using Windows then you go the "Devices and Printers" and you can see what COM port is being assigned to adapter. Then open your terminal program like Putty and connect using 9600 baud rate and 8 none and 1 and make sure the correct COM port is set.

The GUI doesn't include the craft/console port as a physical interface. Check under System: Passwords: Service Authentication: Console.

you are correct. you can only set the login method for the console port in the gui.

The craft interface is an RS232 serial console. It is used for configuration and monitoring. It isn't listed as an interface because it isn't capable of passing network traffic to other interfaces. To connect, use a straight through DB9 connector, set to 9600 baud, no parity, 8 data bits, one stop bit (9600-N-8-1). Disable flow control, it isn't needed.

Usually, problems connecting are with your terminal communication software. To test, short pins 2 and 3 together on the cable you're using to connect and see if what you type echoes on the screen. If so, you know that your terminal software is working. Double-check the speed settings.

If you connect and on power-on see garbage characters on the screen for several seconds, someone may have changed the speed settings on the device during a previous configuration. You'll need to experiment with the speed setting in your terminal software until you see clear text.

if you are able to get into the GUI, then SSH or telnet into the unit to view the default console settings:

Everyone above is correct.  Straight thru cable or USB to serial adapter and make sure the console software is set to the COM port your adapter is using.  Setting should be 9600 baud, N, 8 1.  Also if this is a used unit, you can halt the boot up process and reset the passwords if needed.  I wont go into that here, but it Adtran has a video on youtube showing how.  Search youtube for "TA 900 Password Reset"
