A customer posed the issue below. They have Polycom VVX400 phones on a 7100.
"We can hear other office conversations through all the phones. If I pickup any handset, I can hear everyone's conversation including my own through the handset even if they are not on the phone. For example if someone in the front office is having a conversation and I can hear what they are saying in any handset."
The phones do not have hands-free answering enabled.
Polycom phones have a multicast paging feature built in by default. It may be that there is a phone in the office that has accidentally activated this and you're hearing audio picked up by its microphone. Have an associate listen on aphone and walk around talking to see if you can localize where it is loudest, look for a phone with the paging feature activated accidentally.
Thank you very much for your help.
I had the customer check and the paging feature is disabled and they are still having "cross over" issues.
Another suggestion?
Teresa, the next step would be to mirror one of the ports connecting to the phone as detailed in this document:
Configuring Port Mirroring in AOS
You can then use Wireshark to capture a call. Wireshark has a playback feature that lets you play the RTP stream being sent and received by the phone. That will tell us if the additional audio is actually being sent to the phone as RTP. Thanks
