Good morning!
I have always struggled with Netvanta routers. Today is no different
I have a Netvanta 3448, running DHCP on the WAN. Our ISP gave us a static IP today, and for the life of me I can't get it to work.
Can someone give me a quick rundown on what I might be missing? I changed DHCP to static, entered the IP and subnet mask. Applied and saved. Didn't work.
What am I missing?
Thanks in advance!
Hi mycholula:
Default gateway is typically provided in DHCP. If you switch to a static IP address, then I think you'll need to add a static route. The ISP will provide their gateway IP address. Configure the route table and add a static route to 0.0.0.0, subnet mask 0.0.0.0, via the ISP gateway address.
You'll want to setup DNS servers as well. You may use DNS servers provided by your ISP or a third-party service if you prefer. For example, OpenDNS at 208.67.222.222 (primary), 208.67.220.220 (secondary).
Will you let us know how it goes? Best,
Chris
Thanks cj! That was exactly what was missing (adding the default route).
They are up and running!
