I have been trying to find where to change this setting. I have seen a pdf after an internet search, for the 3130 for the web interface. But when I look into that on the 3140 I dont have the option for default gateway. I get the IP Address and Subnet Mask, but no default gateway. Where do I find it so I can make these changes?
Thanks for your time,
Brian Lowery
The default gateway and default route can be set in the 3140 GUI by going to Data>Router/Bridge and then selecting ‘Default Gateway’ or to configure the default route select ‘Route Table’. For additional information regarding the difference between a default route and a default gateway, please see https://supportforums.adtran.com/docs/DOC-2443

Thank you.
I thought this was where I needed to make the changes, and couldn't find any supporting documentation.
Thanks for the link, but still not the documentation on where this info can been changed at.
Is there documentation on where to make theses changes instead of having to poke and click around the interface?
I guess I could just do the CLI part of it if needed.

To set the Default Gateway go to Data>Router/Bridge and then select ‘Default Gateway’.
To set the Default Route go to Data>Router/Bridge and select ‘Route Table’. Next select ‘Add a Static Route to the Route Table’:
Destination Address: 0.0.0.0
Destination Mask: 0.0.0.0
Gateway: IP address or Interface (if applicable)
If this is not the information you were looking for, please let me know.

Donna again thanks for the further clarification on this.
From what I see in the device right now, it looks like the default route is already set toward the default gateway.
Q: would I need to update both of them or just the default gateway as that is what is currently changing on this device?
Thanks,
Brian Lowery
Brian,
‘ip default-gateway’ is used if IP routing is NOT enabled on the router. Otherwise, use the ‘ip route’ command to add a default route to the route table when using IP routing functionality.
I hope this answered your question, if you have any further questions, please let me know.

Donna
No that sounds like something that I would type in the CLI.
How do I verify if IP routing in NOT enabled?
I dont want to change something and then loss access to the device and take my network down.
Thanks for all your help,
Brian Lowery
Brian,
By default ip routing is enabled. On the 3140 the only way to disable ip routing is in the CLI. In the gui, under the Data tab > routing there will be a static route with the destination and subnet mask of all 0s with the next hop address containing your default gateway. You will need to create the new entry and delete the old one if you are trying to change the default gateway your unit if currently using. Below is a picture of how it would look to have a default gateway of 192.168.1.1

Wil
So if I change the default gateway, I need to delete the current one and add a new one with the correct/new default gateway as the "next hop"?
Thanks,
Brian Lowery
Brian,
That's correct. However, if you are accessing this unit via the WAN side while making this change then you will lose access to the unit.

Wil
I will have someone on site (LAN) to make these changes. I'd rather not try and walk them through the CLI to do this at this time.
I will need to create the new one and delete the old one.
Is there an issue if I delete the old one and then create the new one while in the LAN side interface?
Will I break more than I will fix?
Thanks for the heads up.
Go that taken care of, and again thanks for your time Wil.
Is there a way to backup that current config they have on this Adtran?
Thanks for your time,
Brian Lowery
You can save and download the current configuration of your unit by going to the Utilities tab > Configuration. From there you click "save" to save the current running configuration and then click "download" to download a copy of the configuration.

Wil
Awesome, I knew it was going to be easy. Just dont have a lot of experience with this model.
